How to Set Up Instagram Comment-to-DM Automation

Choose a comment keyword, connect Instagram, and configure one private reply that sends people the right SayEase Link. Follow these steps from first connection to a live test.

Step by step

Set up your comment keyword and private reply

    Start with an eligible SayEase plan

    Instagram Auto-DM is included with active SayEase Pro and SayEase Pro + VideoLink Pro Bundle plans. Free and VideoLink Pro alone do not include it.

    Create and publish the link you want to send

    Prepare the product, booking, course, request, tip, store, or other SayEase Link that should appear in the private reply.

    Connect Instagram for Auto-DM

    Open Social Connections, choose Enable Auto-DM, and authorize the same eligible professional Instagram account you linked to SayEase.

    Create the automation

    Open Manage automations, enter one keyword, select your SayEase Link, and write the reply. Use {{link}} where the selected link should appear.

    Save the draft, then activate it

    New automations start as drafts. Review the keyword, link, and message, save the draft, then choose Activate.

    Publish your call to action and test it

    Ask people to comment the exact keyword on your post or Reel. Test from a different Instagram account and confirm the private reply arrives with the correct link.

Keyword matching

Use a clear whole-word keyword

Matching is case-insensitive and looks for the keyword as a whole word. LINK can match “link” or “Send the LINK,” but it does not match part of a different word such as LINKED. SayEase does not use fuzzy or semantic matching.

Before you promote it

Test the complete path

Confirm the automation badge says active, not draft or paused.

Comment from a different Instagram account using the exact keyword.

Open the private reply and verify the selected SayEase Link.

Check your included usage after a successful send.

The connected account’s own comments are ignored. A successful private reply counts toward your available Auto-DM capacity; failed sends do not.

If a matching comment does not send a reply

  • Check that your SayEase Pro or Bundle access is active.
  • Reconnect Instagram if Social Connections says attention is required.
  • Confirm the automation is active and the selected SayEase Link is still published.
  • Check spelling and make sure the keyword appears as a separate whole word.
  • Review your included and purchased Auto-DM availability.

How does Instagram comment-to-DM work?
You choose a keyword and prepare one private reply. When a person uses that whole-word keyword in a comment, an active SayEase automation sends the configured reply with your selected SayEase Link.
What kind of Instagram account do I need?
Instagram connection currently requires an eligible professional account, such as a Creator or Business account, and the account you authorize must match the Instagram account linked to SayEase.
Does the keyword match uppercase and lowercase comments?
Yes. Keyword matching is case-insensitive. A keyword such as LINK can match link or Link when it appears as a whole word in the comment.
Will part of another word trigger the Auto-DM?
No. SayEase uses whole-word matching rather than fuzzy or partial matching. For example, LINK should not trigger from the word LINKED.
What must the private reply contain?
The reply must include the selected SayEase Link, either through the {{link}} placeholder or by including that link's full URL in the message.
Why is my Instagram comment automation not sending?
Check that your SayEase Pro entitlement is active, Instagram shows as connected, the automation is active rather than a draft or paused, the selected SayEase Link is published, and the comment contains the exact whole-word keyword.
How many comment-to-DM replies are included?
Eligible SayEase Pro and Bundle plans include 1,000 successfully sent Auto-DMs per billing month for one connected Instagram account. Only successful sends count against that allowance.
Can this automate my entire Instagram inbox?
No. The current feature sends one configured Instagram private reply after a matching comment keyword. It does not send cold DMs, automate arbitrary inbox messages, scrape followers, or run multi-step follow-up sequences.
